Beuran Hendricks returns for Cape Derby
It has been a superb and exhilarating start to the CSA 4-Day Domestic Series with the first round of matches taking place this past weekend and in round two, Six Gun Grill Western Province have their first away match of the season when they visit GbetsRocks at Boland Park in Paarl in the first Cape Derby of the new domestic structure starting on Friday.
Province head to Paarl following a tough first encounter that saw the Cape side fighting for a draw against Hollywoodbets Dolphins at Six Gun Grill Newlands, with rain curtailing the final day’s play as the Dolphins pushed for victory and WP coach Salieg Nackerdien is looking to take the positives out of that clash into this week’s match.
“We were lucky in terms of the rain, and we’ve learnt a lot of lessons regarding where we can improve this weekend against the Rocks. We have trained well this week and we have identified areas that we need to improve on,” said Nackerdien.
“We need to be consistent in our bowling and create opportunities for us to win the game, and also from a batting perspective, we need to convert those big partnerships. Also, the individual scores are important to convert them from sixty to hundreds and take it as deep as possible,” he added.
GbetsRocks played out to a draw against ITEC Knights at Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein in their first round clash, and Nackerdien believes both sides have a lot to play for this weekend.
“It’s not going to be easy in Paarl, it’s going to be hard, grinding work out there and if you want to win the game you have to be prepared to win it in the last session. At the end of the day, our players need to know their opposition, and we need to know how to bowl to them. You have to execute your game plan on the day and make sure you come out on top,” he added.
Nackerdien will have Proteas bowler Beuran Hendricks at his disposal after the left-arm paceman completed his recovery from injury and he knows that he has the experience in his line-up to counter the Rocks’ batsmen.
“I’m very excited to have Beuran back and hopefully he can do wonders for us in the seam attack and he’s bringing lots of experience to the team as well. We really are looking forward to having him on the team,” he concluded.
Nandre Burger and Tshepo Moreki miss out on squad selection due to injury.
