Six Gun Grill WP Women continue unbeaten run after Dolphins results

November 2022

Six Gun Grill Western Province notched up their fifth victory of the season to remain perfect in the campaign, while the Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers and the Fidelity Titans secured important wins in the Cricket South Africa (CSA) Women’s Provincial T20 Cup on Sunday.

Western Province completed a comfortable seven wicket success over the Hollywoodbets Dolphins at the Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium to extend their lead at the top of the T20 table. The Badgers wrapped up yet another weekend whitewash over the North West Dragons, as Momentum Proteas batter Tazmin Brits added to her impressive season with an explosive fifty at the Witrand Oval in Potchefstroom.

At the DP World Wanderers Stadium, the Titans claimed their maiden T20 triumph of the season thanks to a four-wicket performance from spinner Paulinha Mashishi before the experienced duo of Sunette Viljoen-Louw and Suné Luus saw the Tshwane side over the line against the DP World Lions.

In Durban, the log-leaders and reigning champions Six Gun Grill Western Province were looking to continue their fine form in the format and with the weather playing along, the Cape Town side did just that as they bowled brilliantly to restrict the Dolphins to 86 / 8 after 20 overs. Proteas all-rounder, Nadine de Klerk (2 / 17) and captain Leah Jones (2 / 21) were the star players with the ball for Province.

With the bat, WP approached their chase with the required composure as openers Andrie Steyn (42) and Lara Goodall (26) combined brilliantly at the top of the innings to set the ideal platform for what became a successful chase as the visitors reached the target with 4.2 overs to spare.

In Potchefstroom, the Badgers overpowered the home side with another Brits-inspired performance as the opener recorded a 39-ball 62, including nine fours to help the team from Oudtshoorn put up 130 / 7 in their 20 overs.

With the ball, the Badgers’ bowling contingent did a great job to limit the scoring opportunities of the Dragons, as Jané Winster (1 / 16) and Marnazelle Rabie (1 / 27) stood out with ball in hand to earn their side a hard-fought 15-run win.

In the final encounter of the weekend, the Titans shocked the second-placed side in the Lions with a convincing nine-wicket success after winning the toss and choosing to bowl first. The Lions could only manage a total of 118 / 8 with contributions from Kgomotso Rapoo (28) and Kristie Thomson (22) as the right-arm orthodox Mashishi cleaned up four of the Lions’ top five batters.

The Titans then went on to make light work of the chase, reaching the required target within 17.2 overs as Viljoen-Louw (44*) and Luus (27*) hardly broke a sweat to secure the result and their first win of the 2022 / 23 season.

The action in the CSA Women’s Provincial One-Day and T20 Cup continues during the weekend of 26 – 27 November, with all the cricket streamed live on CSA’s YouTube Channel.
