WP fall to heavy defeat against Warriors
November 2021
The Gbets Warriors completed a destructive innings and 114-run victory over the Six Gun Grill Western Province on day two of the Cricket South Africa (CSA) 4-Day Domestic Series fourth round at St George’s Park in Gqeberha on Friday.
A real team effort with ball in hand helped the Warriors take a spectacular 20 wickets which were spread across the bowlers, with Tshepo Ndwandwa taking impressive figures of three for seven in the first innings, before all-rounder Wihan Lubbe (3 – 27) lead the onslaught in the second outing to help secure the big win for the home side.
The Warriors added 81 runs to their overnight score, with Kyle Jacobs going on to reach his second First-Class fifty to take his team to 366 all out before the hosts turned on the screws when they had the cherry in hand.
Western Province’s first innings response was far from ideal as the visiting side were skittled out for 79 after 28.3 overs, with Ndwandwa and Mthiwekhaya Nabe (3 -33) taking three scalps apiece to blow Province away in the windy city and enforce the follow on.
The Cape Town-based fared a bit better in their second attempt to close in on the Warriors’ score, with a late cameo from Basheeru Walters (52 off 47 balls; 5 fours, 4 sixes) taking WP to 173 all out, which was ultimately not enough to stave off defeat as the Warriors sealed the result.
