NEWLANDS – The Western Province Cricket Association (WPCA) has taken an important step by distributing sanitary towels to players participating in the WPCA Hub Programme at Victoria Cricket Club, as part of its ongoing commitment to support the well-being and development of young female cricketers.
This initiative aims to promote menstrual health awareness and ensure that young girls do not miss training sessions or matches due to a lack of access to essential hygiene products.
Through this gesture, WPCA continues to demonstrate its commitment to the holistic well-being of its players, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The handover formed part of WPCA’s broader effort to create an inclusive and supportive environment for all participants in its development structures.
“This initiative in supporting our girl cricketers within our Hub program, is about far more than distributing hygiene products it’s about restoring and protecting dignity. For many girls in underserved communities, access to menstrual products is not a given. The lack of these essentials can lead to missed school days, reduced participation in sports, and a deep sense of embarrassment or isolation. By providing hygienic products, we are not only meeting a basic health need we are affirming that every girl deserves to feel confident, clean, and included,” said WPCA Cricket Services Manager Clinton du Preez.
“Dignity means being able to show up fully in the classroom, on the cricket field, and in life without fear or shame. It means empowering girls to focus on their growth, their goals, and their game, rather than worrying about something so fundamental. This donation covering 9 hubs with around 4000 packs, sends a powerful message: that their well-being matters, that their development is supported, and that their presence in sport is valued. It’s a gesture of care, respect, and solidarity.
“We thank our partners Excellence in Life NPC, the Spirit Foundation, Lords Taverners South Africa, SADIP, and WPCC for recognizing this need and responding with compassion and purpose. The support is helping to build a culture where dignity is not a privilege, but a standard.”
