5 WP Women’s Players Awarded National Contracts
Five Western Province Women’s Cricketers Awarded National Contracts for 2023/24 Season
Cape Town, 20th March 2023
The President, CEO, Board and Members of the Western Province Cricket Association learnt with pride today that the following five cricketers from Six Gun Grill Western Province have been contracted to the Momentum Proteas Squad for the 2023/24 Season.
Nadine de Klerk, Lara Goodall, Sinalo Jafta, Delmi Tucker and Laura Wolvaardt.
All five were part of the SA squad that reached the final of the recent ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. The Momentum Proteas became the first ever senior South African cricket team to achieve this milestone.
WPCA President Ashraf Burns was effusive in his praise for the five: “Congratulations to the five WP Women’s Cricketers for securing CSA contracts for the 2023/24 season. This is great for the region as we continue to grow the Women’s game following the recent success in reaching the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Final. Good luck with your cricketing careers.”
Goodall, Jafta and Wolvaardt retain their contracts, whilst the talismanic de Klerk has been re-awarded a contract, having missed out in 2022/23. All-rounder Tucker has been rewarded with her first CSA contract, with all five players being in the Proteas playing squad for most of the past year.
Six Gun Grill Western Province Women’s Head Coach Claire Terblanche is equally excited for her players: “Congratulations to all 5 WP Ladies who have been awarded National Contracts. A special mention to Delmi Tucker who has been awarded her first National contract and deservedly so. Also to Nadine de Klerk, who regains her National Contract after some really hard work and good performances. WP are extremely proud of all our players and wish them the best of luck for the upcoming International season.”
