NEWLANDS – The Western Province Cricket Association (WPCA) has congratulated the Western Province Women’s players selected in the Proteas Women 15-player squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, set to take place in England and Wales from 12 June to 5 July.
After missing the series against Pakistan and the tour of New Zealand respectively due to illness and a calf injury, Marizanne Kapp and Dané van Niekerk return to the national setup after their recoveries.
The experienced duo will be joined by fellow campaigner Nadine de Klerk, while Girls in Blue star Kayla Reyneke is set for her first senior World Cup appearance following a breakthrough international season. The former SA U19 Women’s captain enjoyed an impressive 2025/26 campaign, finishing with a batting average of 53 and claiming five wickets in her opening nine T20 Internationals.
Flying the Western Province flag high, women’s team head coach Claire Terblanche will continue in her role within the national setup as part of Proteas Women head coach Mandla Mashimbyi’s management team.
WPCA CEO Corrie van Zyl welcomed the inclusions: “We are especially pleased to see the return of experienced players such as Marizanne Kapp and Dané van Niekerk, while Kayla Reyneke’s inclusion highlights the exciting young talent coming through our system. We wish the squad and management team every success for the tournament.”
WPCA President, Johannes Adams added: “This selection is recognition of the hard work and commitment shown by our players, coaches and support staff over many seasons. Women’s cricket continues to grow from strength to strength within Western Province, and we are proud to see our Girls in Blue represented on the world stage.”
