Final Round of 4-Day Series sees 5-way Battle for Honours

March 2023

Cape Town, Friday 10th March 2023

There’s all to play for in the final round of the CSA 4-day Series, as 5 teams are still in the running for the top 3 places on the log. After 3 rounds played away from home, Six Gun Grill Western Province are at home for their final match of the season, against the Dafabet Warriors, starting at 10h00 on Sunday 12th March.

Both teams have stutterred of late, as their outstanding starts to the season came unstuck after the extended break for the SA20 league. The 3 away games on the trot for Western Province ending in a record of loss-draw-loss to the HollywoodBets Dolphins, North West and the DP World Lions respectively.

Crucial Encounter

These words are used a lot. It had been a stellar campaign for WP, top of the log after 3 rounds. In fact they were still top after their 6th game. Now that all teams are equal on 6 games played, the Newlands-based team finds itself in 5th position. The points difference between 2nd and 5th is only 6.24 points, which means that a good finish against the Warriors could elevate WP into the top 3.

Top spot appears to be out of reach, as the Dolphins are on a hot streak of 4 wins in a row, taking them to 16.64 points ahead of the 2nd placed Momentum Multiply Titans. In the final round of games, the Dolphins are away to the Lions and the Titans are at home to bottom-of-the-log North West.

WP will need a big win against the Warriors, together with other results to go their way, for them to finish strongly.

Plenty of Positives

It has been a season where WP have challenged for honours in both the CSA 1-Day Trophy and the CSA 4-Day Series. The T20 Challenge also gave the opportunity to blood some new talent, and there is no better learning ground than the cricket field itself. Coach Salieg Nackerdien and his staff have ensured that his charges will be playing Division 1 cricket again next season, having built a formidable squad, filled with both youth and experience.

Keep an eye open for our season review next week, as we unpack the proud achievements of our Boys in Blue. In the meantime, all eyes will be on Newlands from this Sunday as the team seek to end the season on the highest note possible.
