Five WP Women in SA Squad for Tri-Series
East London, 17th January 2023
Cricket South Africa (CSA) today announced the 17-player Squad to represent South Africa in the upcoming Tri-Series in East London.
Five Western Province Women’s players will be locking horns with India and the West Indies at Buffalo Park from Thursday 19th January. The opening match is against India, with the first ball being bowled at 19h00 SAST. It is the ideal platform for the WP players to shine, as they stake a claim for a place in SA’s ICC T20 World Cup Squad.
The players selected are Nadine de Klerk, Lara Goodall, Sinalo Jafta, Delmi Tucker and Laura Wolvaardt.
Sinalo makes a welcome return to the SA squad, with Nadine, Lara and Delmi continuing to perform at domestic level, as well as at last year’s 50-over ICC Women’s World Cup. Star batter Laura Wolvaardt, last year’s world-leading run scorer in One-day International cricket, returns from her successful stint at the WBBL. Laura was an integral part of the Adelaide Strikers team that lifted the trophy for the first time in their history.
WP Women’s Coach Claire Terblanche commented to WPCA Media on the selections: “It’s always good to see WP players being included in the National Squads. This being a series so close to the World Cup, we hope to see them put up their hands and showcase their unbelievable talent. Always proud of our WP ladies achievements.”
