Justin Kemp joins World Sports Betting Western Province

NEWLANDS – Former Cape Cobras Captain and Proteas all-rounder Justin Kemp has been added to the World Sports Betting Western Province coaching staff for the remainder of the 2023/24 season.

The 46-year-old Komani born joins the coaching staff as an assistant bowling coach for the duration of the CSA T20 Challenge.

He joins the squad after the resignation of bowling coach Rory Kleinveldt who has since taken up the position of bowling coach at Northamptonshire CCC.

Kemp is no stranger to World Sports Betting Newlands territory having played and Captained the Cape Cobras and Western Province in a 9-year period spanning from 2007-2015.

Head Coach Salieg Nackerdien is excited about the value Kemp can bring to the set up and is looking forward to what his arrival can bring to the team.

“I’m very excited to bring Justin on board. His been with Western Province for a number of years and we’re looking forward to the value he can bring to our environment,” said Nackerdien.

“His already gelled nicely with the group after our first training session since his arrival and his started to build relationships with the players and management”.

“He’ll be with us for the remainder of the T20 campaign and I’m looking forward to the knowledge he’ll bring in and hopefully we’ll build a relationship that can take this team to new heights in the future”.

The All-Rounder boasts a wealth of knowledge and experience having been at the helm of the most successful period of the franchise era with the Cobras lifting 8 titles across the three formats.

Kemp added that he sees the great work Salieg Nackerdien has put in to get the team to where it is today.

“It’s great to be back at World Sports Betting Newlands. I have really good memories on and off the field,” said Kemp.

“There’s a huge amount of talent in the camp and Salieg and his team have done a great job in getting silverware back to Cape Town and creating a formidable team” he added”.

“I’m excited about working with such a talented group and moving forward with this team”.

Kemp missed out on the opening match of the T20 campaign due to pre-arranged obligations but has since joined the squad in their triumph over Tuskers on Sunday.
