Kyle Verreynne: ‘The team is ready for the Titans’

February 2025

NEWLANDS – World Sports Betting Western Province is working on a quick turnaround strategy going into One Day Cup round 4.

Having lost their second match of the campaign over the weekend against the Knights in Bloemfontein, the Boys In Blue turned the focus to home turf as they welcome the Momentum Multiply Titans at World Sports Betting Newlands on Wednesday.

The match is set to start at 13h00 on Wednesday 19 February with tickets still available through the Cricket South Africa (CSA) on www.cricket.co.za and will be live on the CSA YouTube page.

Captain Kyle Verreynne says the team is already working on plans to bounce back against the Titans.

“Not a lot of positives to take from the results on Saturday, but I think the performances of George Linde and Kyle Simmonds have been really good throughout the season,” said Verreynne.

“Both of those guys were good again on Saturday, they were good with the bat and ball.

“So I think those are probably the two positive things that we can take out of the loss.”

Verreynne says the team is working on plans to bounce back against the Titans.

“It’s quite a quick turnaround to the game on Wednesday, but I think we’ll just try and keep things nice and simple,” he says.

“We’ve had a thorough debrief and I think we know exactly where we went wrong and what things we can do a little bit differently going into Wednesday’s encounter.

“It’s going to be a tough one against the Titans, but I think we’ll be ready for it.

“We’ve got our final bit of preparation tomorrow [Tuesday] and hopefully that’ll be enough to give us a positive result.”

Salieg Nackerdien’s charges have occupied sixth place on the log after one win with just five points.

The 27-year-old admits having two back-to-back home games this week will be good for the team.

“Obviously two back-to-back home games I think is always really exciting, being on the road now for the last game so it’s good to come home and get to play in front of our home crowd,” he adds.

“I think hopefully that gives us a little bit of momentum that we need in the competition and I think also playing in conditions that we’re quite familiar with will hopefully be a big boost.

“It’s quite important that we get our campaign back on track and I think two back-to-back home games is really positive for us.”
