Six Gun Grill WP Face Must-Win Match against Gbets Rocks in Paarl

Cape Town, 21st December 2022

Western Province face a Date with Destiny on Friday 23rd December as they tussle with their nearest neighbours for a spot in the final of the CSA 1 Day Cup. The encounter at Eurolux Boland Park, starting at 13h00, will determine one of the two finalists for the Trophy.

After a difficult T20 campaign in Potchefstroom, our #BoysInBlue came storming back in the 4-Dayers, and then topped that with a 4-match winning streak in the 1 Day Cup. Two defeats against the Dafabet Warriors and DP World Lions has still left them in pole position to join the Lions in the final.

For Coach Salieg Nackerdien, it’s very simple: “Its about smart cricket that we need to play. We want to play the big moments and the small moments much better than the opposition. We need to believe we can win on Friday. Paarl is never an easy place to go and play, and we need to back ourselves going there and play our best cricket on Friday”

Fast Bowler Tshepo Moreki, with 4 wickets in the last match against the Lions, is under no illusions as to what is needed: “Its obviously a must-win game, a one or none game. It’s important for us to get in the right frame of mind for that sort of occasion, and to be able to express ourselves and play a brand of cricket that we’re proud of.”

We are immensely proud of Captain Wayne Parnell and his team, and will be cheering every run they score and celebrating every wicket they take in this crucial clash.

The Table

At the time of posting this article, the points tally of 13 for the Rocks is incorrect, and should be 14, owing to ESPN Cricinfo not assigning a bonus point for the win on the 21st December.

The gap is 4 points. A convincing win for the Rocks will take them to Johannesburg on December 29th. Any win, however large or small, will mean a Final spot for Western Province.

Whichever way you look at it, as the glistening domes of Paarl give way to the backdrop of the Groot Drakenstein mountains, the picturesque cricket ground that lies beneath them will be Friday’s fight for the final for our modern Gladiators.
