Western Province Cricket appreciation message to its sponsors

May 2025

NEWLANDS – The Western Province Cricket Association (WPCA) extends its sincere gratitude to all its partners and sponsors for their valuable support and contributions during the 2024/25 domestic and international season.

This season marked a new chapter for WPCA with the appointment of Corrie van Zyl as Chief Executive Officer (CEO), alongside the introduction of several new sponsors and partners to the World Sports Betting (WSB) Western Province Cricket family.

As part of its ongoing commitment to promoting cricket across the province, WPCA announced a strategic partnership with Tractor Outdoor (Pty) Ltd in November 2024. Tractor Outdoor, a prominent digital outdoor advertising company with a strong presence in Cape Town and the Western Cape, offers a range of advertising platforms – including billboards, digital out-of-home (DOOH) advertising, building wraps, and transit advertising. This partnership has enabled WPCA to leverage additional exposure through Tractor’s digital portfolio.

In February 2025, WPCA renewed its partnership with Southern Sun, reaffirming its role as the Official Hotel Partner for the 2024/25 cricket season. This continued collaboration highlights Southern Sun’s dedication to supporting sport in South Africa at all levels. That same month, WPCA and the Western Province Cricket Club (WPCC) formed a new strategic alliance, aimed at advancing cricket development in the region. A key focus of this partnership is the establishment of a Centre of Excellence at the historic Vineyard Oval.

Adding to the growing list of valued partnerships, Heart FM joined WSB Western Province Cricket as the Official Radio Partner for the next three years. Through this collaboration, WPCA and Heart FM will launch campaigns to bring fans closer to the game, including exclusive match-day ticket access, player signing sessions, live broadcasts from WSB Newlands, and more.

Following this, WPCA welcomed Mobi G Industries (Pty) Ltd as the Official Golf Cart Partner. As part of the sponsorship, WPCA received a Mobi G Loader to be utilised for operations in and around WSB Newlands.

The 2024/25 season was also a successful on the field. The World Sports Betting Newlands Cricket Ground hosted a vibrant international summer of cricket, highlighted by a successful One Day International (ODI) and a thrilling Test series against Pakistan. The Proteas Men sealed a 10-wicket victory in the New Year’s Test, delighting local fans. Memorable performances included a double century from Ryan Rickelton, and centuries from local favourite Kyle Verreynne and national captain Temba Bavuma.

WSB Newlands also played host to a successful Betway SA20 Season 3, with MI Cape Town winning all five of their home fixtures. Groundsman, Braam Mong, was honoured as Groundsman of the Year, in recognition of the outstanding recovery and quality of the pitches following the challenging New Year’s Test against India in January 2024.

Our women’s team also made the province proud. The World Sports Betting Western Province Women claimed back-to-back T20 titles, winning the inaugural Hollywoodbets Pro 20 title and finishing as runners-up in the Hollywoodbets Pro 50.

Although the World Sports Betting Western Province Men’s team did not achieve its desired results, it reached Qualifier 2 of the CSA T20 Challenge and produced four nationally contracted players: Kyle Verreynne, Tony de Zorzi, Nandre Burger and David Bedingham.

The Western Province Youth teams excelled at the CSA National Cricket Weeks in December 2024, with the U19 Boys team clinching the Khaya Majola Cricket Week trophy on home soil. It has been an inspiring and successful season. We are immensely proud of Bishops Diocesan College and the Victoria Hub Girls Team for progressing to compete in the SA20 National T20 National Schools Challenge Finals, where Bishops Diocesan College were crowned Boys’ national winners. A very strong contingent of players earned National selections, further testament to the prolific season’s success.

WPCA CEO Corrie van Zyl commented: “It was a season that was full of action on and off the field, with the newly refurbished Media Centre utilised for the first time during the Pakistan ODI on 19 December 2024. This world-class facility will now also serve as a flexible office space outside of match days, contributing to the long-term sustainability of WSB Newlands.

“We are extremely proud of our own on-field achievements, as well as our performances as a hosting venue. We extend our gratitude to the Board of WPCA, all staff, sponsors, suppliers, the City of Cape Town and the Western Cape Government for their role in successfully delivering international and SA20 matches.

“Lastly, I thank every youth, club and school’s coach, administrator, match official and volunteer who has contributed to one of our most successful provincial youth cricket campaigns to date. Team performances and CSA national were commonplace – a clear reflection of WPCA’s strategic goal to foster pathways and maintain high-performance.”
