Western Province Cricket pays tribute to Yaseen Vallie
CSA 4-Day Domestic Series Division 1: Dafabet Warriors v Western Province, Day 1
May 2025
NEWLANDS – Western Province Cricket Association (WPCA) pays tribute to World Sports Betting (WSB) Western Province Senior Men’s team stalwart Yaseen Vallie, who has called time on his career.
The 35-year-old homegrown talent who started his cricketing journey with Western Province back in 2009, finished his 15-year sterling career with the Boys In Blue.
Mo, as he is affectionately known, played a combined 325 professional matches, 142 First Class, 124 List A and 59 T20. Vallie started his career with Western Province under former Western Province Men’s head coach Salieg Nackerdien. He then went on to debut for the Cape Cobras where he struck a match winning 163(292) against the Titans in 2011.
With a Cape Cobras squad boasting a batting line up of Andrew Puttick, Richard Levi, Stiaan Van Zyl, Justin Ontong and Justin Kemp there was just no guarantee in game time where he made the decision to move to the Warriors. Vallie spent six years at the Warriors before making the move back to Cape Town where he has now called time.
His most notable knock with the Boys In Blue came on 1 April 2022, in the CSA One-Day Cup, where he stuck a maiden List A century with a knock of 102 runs from 109 balls against neighbours Boland.
WPCA CEO Corrie van Zyl commented: “Retirement from a professional sport career is not an easy decision for a player to make, however when you have had an illustrious career like Mo is makes it easier as he can look back on his career with pride, knowing he has left all on the field of play. Mo, was not just an excellent cricketer but he is also a good human being, a characteristic that will stand in him in good sted for the next phase of his career. WP Cricket salutes Yaseen Vallie for his excellent contributions to the WSB Western Province team and WSB Western Province Cricket in general.”
Vallie said: “I am still passionate about the game, something I have been doing all my life – I am now looking forward to giving back and helping where I still feel I can offer a lot in a coaching role.
“It’s very difficult two put things into words, I appreciate the opportunity and the friendships I have made and also helping Cape Cobras and Western Province in these years. I just need a little of a break, but I will definitely be looking to coach and help where I can and explore other avenues. I wish Western Province all the best, I want to see the team gets back where it should be, at the top and win trophies.”
Western Province Cricket wishes Yaseen a happy retirement and all the best for life after cricket.
