Salieg Nackerdien’s men completed preparation today for the next phase of the CSA 4-Day Series. There is all to play for as the First Class season resumes on Sunday 12th February.
The Six Gun Grill Western Province squad jets off to Durban on Friday, and there will be an early start on Sunday, as they tackle the HollywoodBets Dolphins at Kingsmead. It is a crucial encounter for second-on-the-log Province, who are seeking their first 4-Day title since the 2013/14 season.
Maintaining the Momentum
Nackerdien is positive his side will continue where they left off when the CSA 4 Day Series resumes this weekend.
WP had its last match from 24-27 November 2022, where the team maintained its good run, winning by an innings and 155 runs over the ITEC Knights at Six Gun Grill Newlands.
In their preparations for the remainder of the season, the team played a few warm-up games against the University of the Western Cape and travelled to Paarl to face Paarl Rocks in a 2-Day game. Nackerdien said the team is in the right state of mind and is ready for this weekend’s assignment.
“The preparations went well, we started two weeks ago – against UWC and we had put hard work in. We also had a 2-day game against Rocks in Paarl this week, then we are leaving on Friday to Durban. We want to keep that momentum going and maintain the unbeaten run, the last part of 2022 was amazing for us, hopefully, we can continue to deliver good performances on the road as well.”
“We have a good chance this year to deliver good news to us and to our fans – we just have to plan and execute well – so, let’s see how the weather plays out in a couple of weeks or so as we will have back-to-back fixtures.”
Squad Update
Referring to the depth of the squad, Nackerdien gave an update regarding the team’s readiness and touched on the injured David Bedingham.
He added: “The squad is not changing a lot, I think Kyle Verreynne and Kyle Simmonds will be back, while Nandre Burger won’t be considered for selection. Regarding David Bedingham, he will be going to England at the end of February. Hopefully, he will be back when he’s fully fit, doing rehab in England and getting himself into good shape.”
The final squad announcement is expected on Friday 10th February.
