WP Duo Star for SA u19 Women in India Series
Steyn City, Gauteng, 4th January 2023
The 4-match Unofficial series between SAW u19 and IndiaW u19 came to an end on Wednesday 4th January at the Steyn City Schools complex in Gauteng. The young South African Women failed to gain a victory in the series, with a testing time experienced against an excellent Indian team.
The preparation for Head Coach Dinesha Devnarain‘s team is invaluable though, ahead of the inaugural ICC T20 Women’s World Cup, commencing in Benoni on Saturday 14th January. Western Province Women’s players Kayla Reyneke and Jemma Botha showed their mettle in the series, with some of the best performances for the home team.
The Statistics
Both Kayla and Jemma played in all 4 matches, a testament to their value to the squad. Kayla recorded the highest number of runs for her team, 72 (28% of SAW u19’s total), with Jemma’s 27 runs the fourth highest contribution. On the bowling front, both players acquitted themselves well against the strong Indian batting line up (which includes Shafali Verma and Richa Ghosh). Kayla’s 3 wickets came at the best economy rate of 4.8 runs per over, and Jemma’s (opening the bowing in the PowerPlay) 2 scalps were achieved at 5.8.
Western Province Cricket is exceptionally proud of these two talented young cricketers, and wishes them well for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
