WP leave it late to pull off nail-biting win at The Wanderers

The CSA One-Day Cup is in full swing as the competition continues across the country. Today’s thrilling encounters saw multiple teams claim victory after holding their nerves till the very last minute.

The Imperial Lions were put in to the bat first as Six Gun Grill Western Province secured a one wicket victory in Johannesburg. Tshepo Moreki (4/41) and Wayne Parnell (2/26) tore through the Lions top order.

Parnell trapped Ryan Rickelton lbw for five runs before bowling Temba Bavuma for nine runs. Moreki then dismissed Reeza Hendricks (18) and Domnick Hendricks (7), was caught by Zubayr Hamza.

Beuran Hendricks (2/17) dismissed Mitchell van Buuren (6), ran out Wiaan Mulder for three runs and bowled Bjorn Fortuin before he could score any runs and the Lions were 83/7 in 22 overs.

Rassie Van Der Dussen (67) and Sisanda Magala (57), restored the Lions innings, with their partnership yielding more than a hundred runs before Moreki continued with his destruction, bowling Magala, before trapping van der Dussen lbw and the Lions ended their innings on 186 all out.

Fortuin recorded the best figures in his ten overs (3/20) after he clean-bowled Richard Levi (0) in the opening over, bowled Yaseen Vallie (16) and caught and bowled Tony De Zorzi with 27 runs.

Magala (3/37), continued where he had left off with the bat, claiming the wickets of Hamza (19), Kyle Verreynne (2) and Parnell (13).

George Linde’s unbeaten 67* (5 boundaries and 1 maximum), was the anchor Western Province needed as they ended innings on 190/9 and winning the game by one wicket after Beuran Hendricks, needing 3 off the final delivery to secure the win, smashed a six off the bowling of Wiaan Mulder to send his team-mates into huge celebrations as they secured their first win of the 1 Day Cup competition.
