WSB WESTERN PROVINCE DUO SECURE NATIONAL CONTRACTS

March 2024

NEWLANDS – Fast bowler Nandre Burger and batter Tony De Zorzi have both earned their first Cricket South Africa (CSA) national contracts after consistent performances with both World Sports Betting Western Province and the Proteas respectively.

CSA on Monday announced the contracted list for 2024/25 where our Men’s and Women’s players earned their spots.

Burger, who made an all three-format debut in the recently concluded India Series has impressed both national team coaches, Shukri Conrad [Test] and Rob Walter [ODI/T20] with his ability to generate high pace with immense accuracy.

He has since gone on to secure a lucrative contract with Indian Premier League (IPL) side Rajasthan Royals in this year’s edition of the Tournament.

De Zorzi has had a stellar start to his international career making his Test and ODI debuts in 2023. He picked up his maiden ODI hundred in the India Series backing up the performance with 81 runs in the final ODI. The left-handed batter has also been earmarked as a replacement for recently retired stalwart Dean Elgar.

Province head coach Salieg Nackerdien is ecstatic that the duo has been rewarded for their consistency over a long period of time.

“A massive congratulations to Nandre and Tony and well-deserved. I think what they’ve done over the last two years is fantastic in terms of Tony with the bat and Nandre with the ball, they’ve made a huge impact in our performances,” Nackerdien.

“And the way they’ve went about their game its thoroughly deserved and I’m very happy for them. Hopefully it’s journey that will take them as long as possible in the national side.

“We wish them all the best and it’s nice to see that two of our players have gotten rewarded for their performances. I wish them the best of luck going forward in their international careers.”

Western Province Cricket Association (WPCA) President Johannes Adams added that the union is moving in the right direction and is evident by attaining a title sponsor as well as the team bringing silverware back to World Sports Betting Newlands.

“On behalf of everybody at WPCA we want to congratulate our nationally contracted players. Their reward is testimony to the hard work that was put in over a period of time. We would like to wish them well with their future performances,” he said.

It didn’t end there for the Province as the women’s team was also awarded national contracts.

Nadine de Klerk, Lara Goodall, Marizanne Kapp and Delmi Tucker also earned the Proteas Women contracts.

“Congratulations to the Western Province representatives who have been awarded national contracts. Your dedication and commitment at the national level has been rewarded,” said World Sports Betting Western Province Women head coach Claire Terblanche.

“We look forward to having that experience shared at Provincial level when our players are available to WSB WP. Their contribution at the Provincial level is invaluable.”
